John Lazo’s laboratory primarily focuses on studying how protein
phosphatases control mammalian cell division and survival. At a
nanoscale, these protein phosphatases control cell motility,
spindle function, microtubule movement, intracellular cargo
transfer, and cellular invasion. Additionally, Lazo is engaged
at the new Drug Discovery Institute in the identification of new
pharmacologically interesting small molecules. The design and
development of robust nanoscale assays using optical endpoints
are of particular interest for this effort.
