Swanson School Staff Awards
The Swanson School Staff Awards Program was created in 2008 to recognize staff who provide outstanding performance and service to the Swanson School. For more details about the awards program, please contact the Swanson School dean's office.
2008 Recipients
- Betty Victor’s role as Director/Office of Administration requires diligent management for the fiscal activities of the University budgets, gifts, research, endowments, and cost centers. She also controls faculty and staff personnel actions, undergraduate probation and dismissal, as well as legal and audit issues. Betty has served in various capacities at the Swanson School of Engineering for nearly 50 years. Her presence has also been felt in various University of Pittsburgh boards, where she has played an active role in various scholarship, accounts payable, compliance, and advisory committees.
- Richard Colwell first started working with the University in August 1985, when he was hired as an electronic technician. In his current role, Rich is responsible for maintaining the computer systems, network, servers for several of the School’s departments, in addition to three state-of-the-art computer teaching labs and various other high-tech labs. Rich’s impressive volunteer efforts include serving two years in the United States Army, helping the Peace Corps via web communication, as well as playing significant roles in the Staff Association Council and various search and audit committees.
- Brittany Guthrie has been with the University since August 2002. Despite the fact that the undergraduate student body has doubled since she began, Brittany has continued to maintain an extensive student database, develop solutions to students’ academic concerns, and serve as the department web editor, in which she has assisted in the designing of information architecture and created an undergraduate resource section. In addition to serving on the Staff Association Council and the University Senate, Brittany is responsible for the strengthening of various subcommittees.
